YOU CARRY FISH STENCH

men will sit at your table
eat your fish stew, belch
and go spreading a fable
that you carry fish-stench

men will borrow your shoe
return it hopelessly worn
yet, chorus jeers and boos
if your feet cultivate corn

men will map you paths
through sewers and drains
spur you with hearty pats
only to share in the gains

none speaks as a friend
each seeks a selfish end!
