FAITH IS WORTHLESS…

a thirsty fool stood on a mountain
praying for water to quench his thirst
“god, i have faith in you,” he says
bring me water from the stream below”

god looks at him with disdain
“why not make the water move first
faith, without work, never pays
there’s water below, you know!”

he held on to faith, waiting in vain
skin burnt as though into fire immersed
just before his final breath, he prays
“god, do not forsake me so!”

down at the foot of the mountain
water bubbles form and burst
as crocodiles, deers, frogs and jays

drink, oblivious of a fool’s dying echo
